Kareem Amer

Há uns anos coloquei neste blogue, por baixo da secção de ligações para outros blogues, um pequeno aviso que chamava à atenção para o caso de Kareem Amer, um jovem egípcio que foi sentenciado a quatro anos de prisão devido, entre outras coisas, a promover o ateísmo, o que é uma afronta implícita ao Islão, e criticar o presidente do Egipto. Depois de ter sido abandonado pela família, sujeito a ameaças de morte, torturado por guardas prisionais e mantido tão isolado quanto possível do mundo exterior, Kareem foi finalmente libertado no passado dia 15:

Kareem Amer was set free yesterday’s night, Monday 15th of November 2010, after spending 1470 days in prison. (...)

Kareem refused to talk to anyone at the moment, however he reassures all his supporters worldwide that he’s fine. The brave man wants to have a little privacy for a week before he can say anything. (...)

FreeKareem.org staff wants to take this precious chance, and thanks everyone who supported Kareem through his honourable struggle against an unfair trial and an oppressive imprisonment. Suponho que já posso, por fim, remover o aviso. Agora é só esperar que algum país relativamente livre tenha a bondade de lhe conceder asilo político.
